Frisco-Buxton Pathway
The Frisco-Buxton Pathway is a multi-use project currently under development to connect the villages of Frisco and Buxton on Hatteras Island with a safe, 7.6-mile accessible corridor. Once complete, it will provide non-motorized access between local landmarks, beach areas, and businesses, running parallel to N.C. Highway
Route Details: The full path is planned to extend from the Frisco Bathhouse beach access to Buxton Back Road. It will include boardwalks over wetlands and multiple crosswalks at high-volume areas like Conner's Supermarket and Buxton Village Books
Completed Sections: The first 1,400-foot segment was privately funded by the Frisco Woods Campground and completed in early 2024. It runs from near Pamlico Deli to Hatteras Sno-Balls.
Ongoing Progress: In August 2025, Dare County Commissioners backed a grant application for a new 1.25-mile phase of the project. Earlier funding goals focused on a 4.41-mile stretch from Cape Hatteras Secondary School to Piney Ridge Road.
Community Effort: The project is a grassroots initiative led by the Frisco-Buxton Pathway Committee in partnership with Dare County. Funding is largely raised through local events, such as the Frisco Woods Christmas Light Festival and fall festivals.
